In a much-anticipated matchup, Izima FC and Dreamland Academy faced off in their top-of-the-table clash. The heavy rains that preceded the match did nothing to dampen the players and
spectators’ appetite for this match as they turned out in full and were rewarded for their
presence of two well-matched teams gave them a football treat.
The inquisition is still on as to whether Dreamland underrated Izima, or that Izima is a much
better team than they get credit for, because the first half clearly belonged to Izima, who gave
Dreamland is a runaround. The Izima midfield and attacking combination of Friday, Chiedozie, and
Tony proved too sleek and tactically aware for Dreamland. Unsurprisingly, Izima broke the
deadlock midway into the first half through Chiedozie after he cut in from the left and struck a
shot that beat Dreamland’s goalkeeper Nwanoro Chukwuma.
In search of an equalizer, Dreamland dominated the second half, putting Izima under pressure.
Coach Samuel Agbai pulled out all of his tactics as he deployed and redeployed his players in
various positions, seeking to break down a stubborn Izima defense. The pressure eventually paid
off as top striker Obughikem Victor equalized after an intricate passing movement by
Dreamland in Izima’s penalty box gave him sufficient space to take a first-time shot across
goalkeeper Goodluck. The quality and timing of the goal drew massive applause from the
spectators
Neither team could find a winning goal in the time left and had to settle for penalties. Izima
converted their five kicks while Dreamland scored 4.
