MATCH DAY 3, MATCH 1 FORSTER KEEP UP THEIR WINNING WAYS: FORSTER ACADEMY 2 – UCHECARIA 1

Forster Academy continued their strong run of form by securing a hard-fought two-nil victory
over Uchecaria Football Club. At stake in the match was the leadership of the league table. Both
sides, coming off victories in their previous week’s encounters, wanted the comfort of a three–
point advantage over the other in case of a head-to-head situation at the end of the season.

The young lads from Forster had shown the trappings of discipline, tactics, and teamwork in
their last match against Nagotex, which they won via penalty kicks. Uchecaria, on the other hand,
displayed grit and determination to overcome G& T Warriors in their week 2 encounter.
The match started on a cagey note, but soon enough Uchecaria began to match Forster in their
own ground game as they kept control of the ball well enough to dictate the pace of play. But it
was that man again, Matthew Godwin, Forster’s attacking midfielder, who broke the deadlock in
the ninth minute of play with some nifty footwork. He chested a kick-out from goalkeeper Nmecha
Emmanuel in goal for Forster into the path of Davison Chukwuemeka on the left flank, who
immediately slid a return pass to him behind the Uchecaria defense line, which he drove home
with a fierce right footer low to the left of Chinedu Prosper in goal for Uchecaria. Uchecaria
fought back and were level two minutes later through Joseph Onyemauche after he side-footed
a difficult rebound off a save by goalkeeper Nmecha following a shot from outside the box by
Obiekwe Echezona.

In the second half, both teams tried to find a winner, and just as the game was settling in for a
penalty shootout, Forster struck again, this time from Chinedu Bright. Uchecaria had a chance to
draw level with the last kick of the game, but Nwokoma Kelechi could not convert the chance as
Nmecha made a desperate save.
