Match Day 2, Match 1, 14 May 2025 – Forster Academy versus Nagotex FC
With their best efforts thwarted by the excellent goalkeeping of Precious Chinaka of Nagotex football club, Forster Academy went into the lottery of penalties. The game remained deadlocked after the first set of penalties, sending the contest into the sudden-death scenario, and Forster had the first chance to seal victory. Up stepped Godwin Matthew.
The performance of Chinaka all through the match gave Nagotex hope that the momentum could still swing their way. It was not so much that everyone thought Chinaka would save that kick but more that the calm manner displayed by Godwin was awesome, given the tension everywhere. As he had done throughout the match, he did not run at the ball to strike it hard but strode to the ball and placed it low to the left of Chinaka, who may have saved it but for the angle of trajectory that Godwin put in his kick. For this background story and the entire process that went with his game, Godwin’s penalty kick is awarded the goal of the week 2.
